After 10 Failures, What Finally Pushed Free Climber Kevin Jorgeson To The Top

Free climbers Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson reached the summit of the 3,000-foot rock known as El Capitan in Yosemite National Park, marking the first free ascent of the most difficult section called the Dawn Wall. The goal was to climb all 32 pitches without falling. While Tommy Caldwell progressed nicely up the first 20 pitches, Kevin Jorgeson got stuck on pitch #15 for seven days. Despite 10 failures in a row, knowing you’re holding your teammate back, and being under the clock, how did Kevin stay determined? Dr. Perlus shares two sport psychology techniques that would help Kevin ascent pitch #15 and can help you when you’re confronted with an obstacle and in need of patience, perseverance, and desire.
